Overview
Highlights
The LIC Annuity Committee Meeting is a chance for executives from small-to-midsize life insurance companies and fraternals, and relevant service providers, to get together in a unique peer networking meeting. Join us to learn, share your thoughts, and get feedback from other small companies involved in selling annuities.
Bruce Friedland, MBA, FSA, MAAA, CLU, ChFC, Principal of Friedland Consulting Services LLC, will give updates on principle-based reserves for fixed annuities (VM-22) and the actuarial guideline (AG) dealing with asset adequacy testing on business using offshore reinsurance. The AG is moving quickly and there will be requirements in place for year end 2025. This will impact companies selling asset intensive business (like fixed annuities, PRT) using offshore reinsurance options (possibly captives also).
Other discussion topics will be selected by the registrants. Here are examples from past meetings:
- Conservation and Pricing Experience with Products with Auto Renewals, Renewal Windows, etc. - Pros and Cons
- Challenges and opportunities of bringing your first index annuity to market
- Statutory reserve issues
- How have companies responded to the pressures have higher yields as it pertains to working with investments to explore different asset classes, investment strategies, frequency of review, etc. over the last year?
- What changes have companies seen regarding surrender trends on policies beyond surrender charge periods?
The itinerary begins at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 with attendee introductions and discussion before heading out to a hosted networking dinner. Thursday April 24 we'll meet in the morning for presentations and discussion, and wrap up the program with lunch ending at 12:30 pm.
