LIC Annuity Committee Meeting

Ideas for Growing Your Annuity Business

4/23/2025 ET - 4/24/2025 ET
Hosted by Converge Re, New York City

Overview

Highlights

The LIC Annuity Committee Meeting is a chance for executives from small-to-midsize life insurance companies and fraternals, and relevant service providers, to get together in a unique peer networking meeting. Join us to learn, share your thoughts, and get feedback from other small companies involved in selling annuities.

Collin Davidson, Principal & Consulting Actuary, Milliman, will lead a discussion on Exploring RILA and VA Synergies Through Integrated Hedging/Risk Management

Bruce Friedland, Principal of Friedland Consulting Services, will give updates on principle-based reserves for fixed annuities (VM-22) and the actuarial guideline (AG) dealing with asset adequacy testing on business using offshore reinsurance. The AG is moving quickly and there will be requirements in place for year end 2025. This will impact companies selling asset intensive business (like fixed annuities, PRT) using offshore reinsurance options (possibly captives also).

Katy Hylkema, Assistant Vice President of Customer Experience, who oversees Product Marketing, Product Development, and Customer Experience at GBU Life, will be presenting on the Defined Benefit Annuity launch targeted for Gen Z.

Other discussion topics will be selected by the registrants, including direct to consumer model for annuity sales, new product development, and increasing efficiency of transfer/exchange requests.

Meeting Venue

Converge Re welcomes the LIC Annuity Committee to showcase its Midtown Manhattan locale. The meeting will be held in the Moxy New York City Chelsea, 105 West 28th Street, New York, NY 10001.

Rising 35 stories high, Moxy NYC Chelsea is a  boutique Manhattan hotel whose cozy rooms are designed with intelligence—and a touch of wit—and are flooded with light thanks to floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows. The building’s architecture honors the neighborhood with its industrial facade and soaring, greenhouse-style atrium. Enter through the overgrown Starbright Floral Design residency, which doubles as the hotel’s entrance. Dining options include Café d’Avignon Popup, a bakery and café; The Lobby Bar, a bar and lounge offering a modern twist on traditional bar bites and playful cocktails; and Moxy Afterdark, serving dinner entrées, cocktails, wines and beers. Topping off the hotel is The Fleur Room, a glass-enclosed rooftop lounge with panoramic, 360° views.

Converge Re has obtained a special discounted rate of $210/night ($175 + $35 destination fee) for LIC attendees. Please book your room as soon as possible to obtain this limited rate (the discount will be in effect until April 1).

Plan to arrive for the meeting start (onsite at the Moxy Chelsea) at 2 p.m. on Wednesday April 23, and the meeting will end at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday April 24, 2025.

Some attendees have expressed interested in staying Thursday for an outing such as a show; if you are interested please contact awittenburg@loma.org.
